No longer insist on eating meat! Why do whole meat doctors and ketogenic diet godfathers start eating carbohydrates?

I posted the meat password on 2022-9-28: Another extreme of life-saving diet. Reader chiaseeyan left a message on 2024-4-9:

Hello Professor. The author had left pure meat to eat last year and now consumed 300g of carbohydrates every day to access the video.

The video in the message is Why Paul Saladino Quit Carnivore & released on September 24, 2023; Now Eats 300g of Carbs Per Day (Why Paul Saladino abandons whole meat and eats 300g of carbohydrates every day).

Paul Saladino has medical lectures, but he does not work in a hospital or clinic, and has never published any medical papers. His full-time job is to market whole meat diets and nutrients. He released his new book The Carnivore Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Optimal Health by Returning to Our Ancestral Diet on 2020-2-18.

This book is translated into "Meat Password" in Taiwan, and the release date is 2022-8-12. The translator is Huang Tingrong, who graduated from the Department of Broadcasting and TV Studies at the National University of Political Science and Technology, and is studying the Stage and Broadcasting Media Editorial Research Institute of the Central Academy of Lectures and Dramas. (Note: On her face, I saw a large piece of twisted bread in her hand, and said she liked eating this kind of bread. I also highly doubt that the publisher of this book really pursues a whole meat diet)

The content introduction of "Meat Code" is: "Improving autoimmune diseases, Reduce inflammation, crack the myth of plant-based diet benefits, and use whole meat to get back your body health! Aphrodisiac, Cron's disease, Wolf's disease, thyroid disease, porridge, polysclerosis, swelling inflammation, depression, irritation, anxiety, dysfunction, dysentery&helli p;…Many diseases will be improved. In this creative book, Dr. Paul Saladinor reveals a shocking fact that foods that we think are important to health, such as whole grains, plants and green leaves, are not for the body. As you think, it is beneficial! Dr. Saladino combined science, history and his own physical experience to crack the myth of plant-based dieting benefits, and reveal the therapeutic potential of whole meat diet. He proposed that this is the most suitable diet for our body. ”

Paul "It's humble. …… I now understand that adding carbohydrates to my diet can improve my health."

Three months after the video was published (2023-12-27), the health information website The Hone Health posted Why Dr. Carnivore Changed His Mind About Meat-Only Diets (Why whole meat doctors have changed their views on whole meat diets). I translate the key points as follows (red words):

Functional medical practitioner Paul Saladino (also known as whole meat doctor) has caused an uproar in the biohacker community with his strict dietary belief. But by 2023, his health changed, prompting him to abandon the dietary habits that shaped his career. (Note: Taiwan also has many so-called functional doctors, who are timid and can eat and drink. Please see functional doctors: real function, fake medicine)

Saladino has been committed to eating whole meat since 2018, selling books and diet plans to those who are interested in the health benefits of extreme carbohydrate care. But in a recent interview with the podcast Thomas DeLauer, Saladino said his testosterone levels have dropped after five years of whole meat diet. He also believed that eating whole meat was the cause of his sleep problems, correlation and muscle pain.

registered nutritionist Sydney Greene said Saladino may lack nutrients that are responsible for producing important hormones such as testosterone and melatonin, and low blood sugar levels can cause palpitations.

Greene also said that due to the lack of variety in diet, those who follow a meat diet are more likely to lack vitamins and minerals, and are also exposed to risks of stomach and kidney problems such as constipation and acid reflux.

She also said that meat diet does not contain fiber, so it will cause beneficial bacteria in the kidney tract to suffer from severe fertilization, thereby harming the kidney tract microbial community.

Saladino is not the only big-name biographer who gives up meat and drinks. Dave Asprey is known as the "father of biohackers" and the author of Smarter Not Harder, (Note: He is the godfather of ketogenic diet and the inventor of anti-coffee coffee)

He said that the lack of carbohydrates and fibers ruined his brain health and lowered his sleep quality.

He said, "I'm exhausted every morning. According to my sleep monitoring brain image equipment, I wake up 10 to 12 times a night without knowing it."

Nutritionist Greene said, "I will never recommend this diet to anyone. It's very unethical to promote this diet for a doctor.. Part of a healthy life depends on a variety of diets. All food categories are important for physical and mental health. ”

It’s right. It’s very unethical for a doctor to promote this diet. However, a so-called famous doctor is vigorously promoting this diet in Taiwan. Please watch LMHR: Fate Game.

Also, although Asprey has given up ketogenic diet, he is still not vicious: he recently posted a video (2024-3-29) saying that "urinary injection" can cure all diseases, please see https://youtu.be/NMszKzd0UrQ.
