The Information, a US technology news website, reported today, citing three people familiar with the matter, that the White House has informed other federal agencies that it will not allow NVIDIA (NVIDIA) to sell the downgraded artificial intelligence (AI) chip B30A to China.

According to reports, Reuters pointed out that NVIDIA has provided samples of this chip to many Chinese customers. The report also said that this chip, called B30A, can be used to train large language models in large clusters that are efficiently assembled. This is the capability that many Chinese companies need.

An NVIDIA spokesperson told Reuters that the company "has zero market share in China's highly competitive data center computing market" and therefore did not include the Chinese market in its performance forecast.

The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The Information quoted two company employees as saying that NVIDIA is trying to adjust the design of the B30A and hopes that the US government will reconsider.

The California-based company has also encountered regulatory resistance in China recently. Reuters reported on the 5th, citing sources, that the Beijing authorities recently issued guidance requiring all new data center projects that receive state funds to use only domestic chips. The source also said that data centers with less than 30% completion progress must remove all installed foreign chips or cancel procurement plans; data centers with higher progress will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
