Times: The 2.3 billion used by Abramovich to sell Chelsea must first repay the 1.4 billion loan, and he may only have 900 million left to donate.

According to the British media "The Times", there are concerns that less than half of the 2.35 billion pounds Roman Abramovich received from selling Chelsea may be used to aid victims of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In May 2022, Abramovich sold Chelsea for 2.35 billion pounds and promised to use the net proceeds to assist victims of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, this amount is still frozen in the bank account of Fordstam, which was Chelsea's parent company. After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified in February 2022, the British government imposed sanctions on Abramovich.

The latest accounts released by Fordstam Company show that the loans need to be repaid, including the 1.429 billion pounds owed by Abramovich's companies, before the remaining funds can be paid to the charitable foundation.

This means that of the £2.35 billion sale proceeds, only £900 million may go to charity. Three and a half years after Chelsea changed hands, the foundation has received almost no money due to a dispute between Abramovich and the British government over the use of funds.

There is no indication in Fordstam’s accounts that Abu will write off these loans in one lump sum, and relevant parties have contacted Abu’s representatives for comment.
