The Post reported that the Manchester Munich Memorial Fund successfully held its annual charity dinner at Old Trafford last Friday, raising more than 40,000 pounds for charities in northwest England, Munich and Belgrade.
A special part of the dinner was a tribute to the non-league club Oakland Bishops. After the Munich air disaster in 1958 that killed eight Manchester United players, it was this club that generously loaned out three players - Warren Bradley, Bob Hardesty and Derek Lewin - to help United finish the remainder of that season. Among them, Bradley later moved to Manchester United permanently and was selected for the England national team.
To express the gratitude that the club still remembers nearly 68 years later, the Manchester Munich Memorial Fund has presented the Oakland Bishops with a special keepsake: a framed frame containing the ribbon used at the annual wreath-laying ceremony at the Manchester Square Memorial in Munich.
