In the final of the England Community Shield Cup, Crystal Palace beat Liverpool 5-4 in the total score, laughed to the end in the penalty shootout and finally won the cup. After the game, Ward, a former captain of Crystal Palace, who is a member of the TNT sports commentary team, came to the stadium to hug his former teammates enthusiastically to celebrate the victory.

Ward said: "I think some people would say that I am part of the history of Crystal Palace club, and I'm lucky to have been playing for this incredible club for so many years and have a deep affection for these teammates. I'm lucky to play with them and many of my seniors, it's a special club."

"I said when I left the team that these guys will achieve great things, and I really believe that. I hope they get the support they need, have a stable team and create their own legend."

Ward made 364 appearances for Crystal Palace, played for the team during the Championship and promoted to the Premier League with the team in 2013. Although he did not make a appearance in the FA Cup final against Manchester City last season, he won the trophy together with Guy as a substitute.
