Manchester United coach Amorim won the Premier League's Best Coach Award last month. In an interview with TNT, he talked about his Portuguese coach Mourinho. Amorim spent time with Mourinho at Carrington as early as 2017, when the former was studying for his coaching certificate.
In the interview, Amorim talked about why coaches from Portugal can achieve progress and success.
Amorim:
"First of all, we love football. You can list many countries that love football. Then we have a person, that is Mourinho, who opened the door for us and helped us a lot. Especially the breakthrough he made, He was 10 years ahead of his time in training methods, all training, micro-cycles, these things, he was really ahead of the times and helped us grow and gain knowledge.
"I have studied under many coaches, but Mourinho is a role model. Not just for the Portuguese, but for the whole world. Especially early in his career, and throughout his career, he kept winning.
"The way he communicated was always different and I remember you guys loved him when he was here (England) too.
"I've always been in touch with him. He's now coaching at Benfica, which is interesting, me and him seem to have changed countries and clubs (Amorim coached Manchester United, Mourinho coached Benfica).
"But he is a role model for me to follow. Sometimes I exchange messages with him, that's it."
