The Borneo golden cat is a mysterious species for biologists. For a long time, since no one has seen the living body of this cat in nature, it was once considered extinct. No one knows its habits, and all the research results of it come from only five skins and two skulls preserved in the European Museum of Natural History! In 1992, a hunter in Borneo accidentally caught an adult female Borneo golden cat. When it was sent to a local museum, it was on the verge of death.
1. Introduction to Borneo Golden Cat
In December 1998, the BBC Wildlife Magazine released live photos of the Borneo Golden Cat for the first time. The animal was weighed, measured in length, taken photos, checked physically and treated with insects and was put back to nature. At first glance, this short-term prisoner looks quite like an Asian golden cat, so some people suspect that it is just a smaller subspecies of the Asian golden cat on this island. But after genetic analysis of blood from 92 samples, people have confirmed that they belong to a new species and are undoubtedly endangered.
2. Borneo Golden Cat Living Habits
Borneo Golden Cats are also called maroon cats. It is speculated that the main habitat of the Borneo Golden Cats may be located in the stone hilly areas on the island, close to dense tropical jungles. However, there are also records that there are also Pozhou golden cats appearing in the forest and riverside, and the past three samples were captured from there. It lives in Kalimantan Island, Indonesia and Malaysia, and mostly lives in forest areas.
